About Us

A house of healing, not molested,
at rest, at peace, recovering, filling, equipping.

A family of healing. Caring for others. Ministering to others.
Reaching out to the hurting and needy.

Founded in 1960, The First Church of the Open Bible has been reaching out to the community for nearly 50 years. Our church is wheelchair accessible.

The services at McKeesport Open Bible begin at 10:30 am every Sunday morning and last approximately 90 minutes. They consist of a blended worship style including songs from the past as well as the present. We are one of the few churches that have successfully learned to combine the older hymns and choruses with the modern praise and worship music. We use modern technology to project the words to the songs on a screen, encouraging everyone to participate.

Pastor Bob delivers a great sermon rich and full of God’s Word. His messages are easy to comprehend and suitable for all ages.

Prayer time is a valuable part of our services. We verbally lift up those in our church, families, and community that need a touch of the Master’s Hand in their lives.

Once a month, on the first Sunday, the congregation celebrates Communion, which is open to all those who profess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Our congregation is small with about 40 members in regular attendance. Our pastor is bi-vocational holding a regular secular job as a machinist.

We currently have an active Children’s Ministry. Children are included in the worship portion of our services and occassionally we sing songs geared to the kids. Even the adults in our congregation enjoy the hand motions and participate. Mid-way through our service, just after the worship portion, the kids leave the service for a Sunday School type teaching.

Wednesday evenings there is a Bible Study held at the church. David Brown is the leader for this study that starts at 7:00 PM and lasts until 8:00 PM.

Several years ago the church members formed a choir and they sing often during the services. They meet on Wednesday evenings at 8:00 for practice. David Brown also directs the choir, which is open to anyone that wants to participate, regardless of their ability to sing.

We are a growing congregation and not only in numbers on a Sunday morning. One sign of that growth is a church plant. In 2004, members of our congregation planted an Open Bible Church in Oakland, Pittsburgh, PA. Lance Rhoades, who was our Youth Pastor at that time, had a desire to minister to the college students in the Oakland Area of Pittsburgh. Lance had completed a School of Ministry and was ordained through the Open Bible denomination. With our blessing and help, a few members of our church began this plant. You can read more about them at www.reachingoakland.com.

Our church has been instrumental in helping another ministry’s birth. In 2001, just after our worship team began, Lou and Kris Rhoades along with Pastor Bob Fagin, the members of the worship team at that time, began to sing outside of the church as “Chalice” that became a part of The Well Ministries. Chalice has grown over the years and continues to minister in the surrounding areas. Lou and Kris Rhoades worship with us as they are available, when they are not traveling with Chalice.

The congregation at First Church of the Open Bible is friendly and we welcome all visitors.
